What is an ez pass

An ez pass is a special internet stamp that has zero value, but can be used to access participating sites.

How does it work?

A sites decides to allow users to test-drive a section that requires payment to be accessed. The following steps occur:

  • The merchant will request from centipaid.com an ez pass for that prupose.
  • The merchant can add his own graphics/image on the ezpass.
  • The merchant will explicitly allow the "ez pass" to be used on his site, by entering its serial number in the merchant administration site
  • Once it is enterd, the admin can distribute the ez pass to the people they want to grant access to their site.
  • The users can use the ez passes exactly as a regular stamp.  The balance on the ezpass will always report back 0.

The ezpass is valid for as long as the merhant wants, and it can be deactivated by removing the serial number from the merchant admin site.

Centipaid actively uses the ez pass service in its demo area to allow users to test-drive centipaid's micropayment without having to buy a stamp for that purpose.  However if someone does use a valid internet stamps in teh demo site, then the cash is deducted, and can not be reversed.

Q: Is there any charges to set up ezpass.

A: Yes. There is a $50 fee to issue an EZPASS for a merchant, and everytime it is used there is a charge of $0.001 to the merchant's account.
