An internet stamp is a representation of real-money, the only difference is that it holds the money for you on our server, and once you make a purchase it is transfered to the merchant account.
The reason we do this is due to the credit card companies that charge merchants a transaction fee for every purchase. The transaction fee is usually about 30 cents plus 3% of the value of a transaction. This pricing policy is responsible for making micropayment a challenge since it is not practical from a business point of view to charge online users transaction lower than $1.
With an internet stamp, we still have to pay those transaction fees, but we do it only once. After you purchase the internet stamp, all transaction are free from a transaction fee, making it possible for a merchat to charge as low as $0.001 and still make money.
There are other practical reasons for using an internet stamp instead of a credit card which include but not limited to:
- Paying with an internet stamp is a breeze. Just select a stamp, and press the pay button. There are no forms to fill, username and password to remember.
- Paying with an internet stamp provides you with anonymity, and protects your personal information. The internet is becoming much more intrusive, and your personal information is all over the place.
By paying with an internet stamp, you help protect your privacy by selectively choosing which companies to provide your personal information to. Many sites do not require your information for any other reason than fulfilling the credit card company instructions. So if you pay them with an internet stamp, they will be more than happy to accept the payment, and they do not have to manage complex system just to accept few dollars per user.
- Paying with an internet stamp is worry free. In the event of loss or theft or an internet stamp, the damage is finite. This is possible since none of your financial information is linked to the stamp in any way. If in a similar scenario, a credit card is lost, then you will have to rush and cancel the card so you do not become liable for purchases made on the card, and your losses may be more than few dollars.
